A mountain lion was struck and killed in the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway on Thursday.
It’s unclear exactly when the crash occurred or what kind of vehicle hit the big cat, but a single orange cone was visible next to the body in the median of the highway in Sepulveda Pass.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officials from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are en route to the area to retrieve the cougar’s body.
Once they recover the body and run tests, they will be able to determine if the big cat has a tag, said Beth Pratt, regional director of the California National Wildlife Federation.
This is a developing story. Check back later for details.
