MRI confirms that Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has suffered a sprained left ankle

The Golden State Warriors confirmed Monday that an MRI of injured guard Stephen Curry’s left ankle revealed a peroneal strain but indicated “no structural damage.”

The team’s official X account posted the update Monday afternoon around 12:45 p.m. following Curry’s injury during Sunday night loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Curry left the court and went to the locker room midway through the fourth quarter with a left ankle injury, although he had already rolled the same ankle late in the third quarter. He was treated by the training staff on the bench after the first incident, but left the match for good when he rolled his ankle for the second time.

The Clippers defeated the Warriors 112-104spoiling the team’s home opener at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Curry had 18 points, six assists and four rebounds in 27 minutes before leaving the game.

According to the Warriors, Curry will be sidelined for at least the next two games. The team also announced that guard De’Anthony Melton strained his lower back in the loss and will be re-evaluated on Friday.

“He’s obviously sprained his ankle before, so he doesn’t mind it that much.” Kerr said after the game. “But it’s clearly a concern.”

Curry had threatening ankle problems early in his NBA tenure but has largely avoided major issues in the latter part of his Hall of Fame career.
