Nate Diaz excited about brother Nick Diaz’s return to the UFC against Vicente Luque: ‘I don’t think there’s anyone better’

Three years after his last fight, Nick Diaz has a UFC fight scheduled and his brother Nate Diaz can’t wait to see his favorite fighter in action again.

Nick is scheduled to return to the UFC’s octagon on August 3 for a welterweight co-main bout against Vicente Luque at UFC on ABC 7 from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Seeing his brother fly across the world for a fight is something that excited his younger brother Nate.

“He’s going to fucking Saudi Arabia,” Diaz told MMA Junkie with a laugh. “F*ck, huh?”

It’s been a long time since the Diaz brothers were active fighters together.

Nate, who has been in action regularly in recent years, is expected to fight Jorge Masvidal in a rematch of their first BMF title fight at UFC 244 on Saturday in Anaheim, California. It will be the third time the younger sibling has competed since Nick was sidelined.

The year-old last saw action at UFC 266 in September 2021, falling to a TKO loss in a middleweight bout against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. It was Nick’s first fight since 2015 and the fourth straight appearance without a win.

Nate has been out of action for a while and expects his brother to make a big comeback against Luque. Luque has also struggled to find positive results lately, losing three of his last four fights.

“Luque is a fighter, he comes to fight,” Diaz said. “And you know Nick, so that’s what it is. You’re going to have some animals there. I don’t think there’s anybody better than Nick, so we’ll see what happens.”

The brothers have been working in separate camps in preparation for their fights. While Nate is focused solely on the sweet science of boxing back home in California, Nick is mixing it up in Texas. According to Nate, the plan is to get together after his fight this weekend to finalize training and a game plan for his brother’s big return to the cage.
