North Carolina State QB Grayson McCall was taken off the field on a stretcher in the first half of his team’s game against Wake Forest.
McCall took a huge hit running the ball downfield on third down. His helmet flew off when he was hit on the head and he appeared to be unconscious when he hit the ground. The hit was not marked for targeting.
McCall made his first start since September 14 against Louisiana Tech. He left that game with what the team believed was an undisclosed injury. After leaving the game, he walked to the locker room with a towel over his head and did not return.
The Coastal Carolina transfer is in his first season with the Wolfpack and Saturday’s goal appears to be at least the second head injury in the past 12 months. In October 2023, McCall was knocked out and suffered a concussion when he was hit while sliding. McCall’s head hit the turf during that action.
That goal ended McCall’s career at CCU, as he did not return for the remainder of the season. During five years with the Chanticleers, McCall was one of the most productive QBs in college football. He threw for over 10,000 yards in just over three years as the team’s starting QB and had 88 TD passes and just 14 interceptions.
