Chapa said, “I heard a boom, boom, boom.”
According to authorities, the gunfire rang out around 8:00 PM that night.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a male victim in the middle of the street.
It is unclear whether the shooting took place on the street or somewhere else.
Raul Chapa said he thought someone was seriously injured or killed based on the number of gunshots he heard.
“I thought they were just shooting in the air. Five minutes later an ambulance is already there.”
Police said the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Chapa said his instincts told him to throw himself on the floor and under the bed.
Chapa has been living in his NE Oklahoma City apartment for about a year. He said shootings are not uncommon.
There were no suspects yet on Saturday evening. News 4 contacted Oklahoma City police Sunday afternoon to see if any arrests had been made overnight. Researchers tell us there are no further updates at this time.
