New Rochelle High School will hold its first civic fair to earn the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness

New Rochelle High School held its first Civics Fair in early April. The event, themed “Federal Policy at the Local Level,” highlighted the projects of students who earned the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness at their high school diploma.

The Civics Fair included a discussion with experts including New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert; Samantha White, assistant professor at the University of Manhattanville; Andy Buder, director of government and community relations at Metro-North Railroad; and moderator Amy Bass of Manhattanville University.

Tim Kuklis, social studies teacher and Seal of Civic Readiness coordinator, said more than 50 students are expected to earn the Seal of Civic Readiness in their first year at NRHS.

“To be the first class at New Rochelle High School to receive the Seal of Civic Readiness is exciting to me because we can emphasize how important it is to be involved in the community, and how easy it is to make changes that can have consequences for the people around you. ” said student Jordyn Ghiggeri.
