NEW HARBOR, Conn. – A young girl who went missing in New York City was found in Connecticut on Friday.
Authorities say the girl disappeared from her home in East New York, Brooklyn, in December 2021. No details about the circumstances of her disappearance were immediately released.
The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and Bridgeport police said they found the girl in Bridgeport on Friday. They moved there after receiving a request for help from the NYPD earlier this month.
Authorities say the girl, now 16, is in good health and is returning home with her parents.
A report prepared by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services shows that 10,184 children went missing in New York in 2021, and 93.2% of disappearances of children under the age of 18 were runaways. That same year there were two kidnappings by strangers, seven kidnappings of acquaintances and forty family kidnappings.
