Week 8 of the regular season was packed, but Jayden Daniels stole the show with what should undoubtedly go down as the game of the year as he led the Washington Commanders to a miraculous victory over the Chicago Bears.
Beyond that Hail Mary, however, several starting quarterbacks in the league were injured on Sunday. Here’s a look at the latest news, injury updates and more in the NFL as Week 8 comes to a close.
Packers QB Jordan Love is leaving with a groin injury
The Green Bay Packers got the win on Sunday afternoon, but lost quarterback Jordan Love.
Love left Sunday’s 30-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third quarter after taking an awkward hit in the back after the whistle. He was slow to get up after the game and was then replaced by Malik Willis with what the Packers called a groin injury.
Love’s status going forward is unknown, but coach Matt LaFleur said after the game that there is “obviously a lot of concern.” The Packers host the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. If Love isn’t ready for that crucial NFC North matchup, Willis will get the start.
Patriots QB Drake Maye out after hit to the head
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye left their win over the New York Jets early after taking a shot to the head Sunday afternoon.
Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood made helmet-to-helmet contact with Maye from behind as Maye slid during a scramble. Sherwood was not awarded a penalty, but Maye went to the medical tent and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the match due to a head injury. Jacoby Brissett took over and led the Patriots to a 25-22 victory.
Maye is now in a concussion protocol and it is unclear when he will be able to return for the Patriots. Next week they will take on the Tennessee Titans. If Maye doesn’t approve the protocol in time, Brissett will likely start. Brissett was the Patriots’ starting quarterback at the start of the season, but Maye took over earlier this month.
Stefon Diggs examined for knee injury
Houston wide receiver Stefon Diggs went down with a non-contact knee injury during their tight win over the Colts on Sunday afternoon.
Diggs’ right knee bent forward awkwardly as he planted while running a route in the second half, sending him to the turf in pain before eventually walking to the locker room. He did not return and is now being evaluated. Details about his knee injury are not yet known, but it did not look good.
Diggs had a team-high five catches for 81 yards when he went down. The Texans also have a short week, as they take on the New York Jets on Thursday evening.
