Yahoo Sports Senior NFL reporter Jori Epstein is on the road covering training camps. Today’s stop: the Green Bay Packers.
About the QB
Jordan Love didn’t practice during contract negotiations when I was there. What to expect now that he’s back: more aggressive play-calling from Matt LaFleur, who admitted he was too conservative last year.
Rookie to watch
Safety Evan Williams has intercepted a pass in team drills two days in a row. I expect him to catch more in the regular season thanks to his on-field communication, baseball background instincts and DC Jeff Hafley freeing up DBs to “play with our hair on fire,” as he told me.
I keep my eye on
The Packers’ receiver room. Team executives say it’s the deepest room they’ve ever seen. Critics say they don’t have a true No. 1. Will Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson or Dontayvion Wicks break through?
Fantasy thought
While 2022 rushing champion Josh Jacobs is sure to impress, don’t ignore RB AJ Dillon. His offseason muscle and chisel count have turned heads, with LaFleur saying Dillon is in “THE best shape” he’s ever seen.
What I saw was interesting
By switching to a four-man defensive front, D-linemen like Rashan Gary were able to disrupt the offensive flow in a big way. We’ll have a more accurate assessment when Love returns. But this D’s arrow is looking up.
Wildcard
The skies opened up at Green Bay practice Tuesday, making clothes wet, balls heavy and more. Receivers found it much easier to hold onto balls during practice Wednesday. But kudos to LaFleur for getting his team, including two young QBs, acclimated to the elements.
