NHL free agency 2024: Day 1 live tracker, rumors, news and contracts originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The 2024 NHL offseason continues on Monday with the start of free agency.
Teams can start making new deals and signing contracts with free agents starting at noon ET.
This year’s free agent market is expected to be filled with stars and proven veteran players, including Steven Stamkos, Sam Reinhart, Jake Guentzel, Elias Lindholm, Chandler Stephenson, Brandon Montour, Jonathan Marchessault, Matt Duchene, Brady Skjei and Tyler Toffoli.
One team to watch is the Boston Bruins, who won their first playoff run since 2021 in May and have about $21.67 million in salary cap space, per CapFriendly. The B’s need at least one top-six forward, a proven scorer on the wing and a left-shooting defenseman. They’ll also need to figure out a long-term extension with restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman.
It should be a very busy and exciting Monday as teams use their cap space to make roster upgrades.

One item to keep an eye on: #NHLBruins Naturally, Jeremy Swayman made a qualifying offer today.
But it appears that Bruins and Swayman have not made much progress on a new deal. And they already went through the full arbitration process last year to reach a deal via binding ruling.

Not surprising considering Tampa traded for the rights to Jake Guentzel earlier today, but things have been quiet between Lightning and Steven Stamkos so far today. Never say never, but Stamkos camp led by Don Meehan is working through other market options.

Friedman on Zadorov/OEL and Leafs (32TP): “I think they’re going to have competition from Boston for Nikita Zadorov, they’re also in the running for Oliver Ekman-Larsson, but I think there are a few teams looking at that as well”
