Nine remain hospitalized and one dead in the Towson mass shooting, Baltimore County police say

Nine people remain hospitalized and one was killed in a mass shooting that occurred Tuesday evening on the 8500 block of Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson, according to Baltimore County police.

Around 7:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and White Oak Avenue, near the Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home, where they found a car overturned and on fire and multiple victims, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said. during a press conference after the incident.

Police were still determining how many people had been shot Tuesday evening, McCullough said. Multiple gunshots were visible in the facade of the funeral home and there were shell casings at the scene, he said.

McCullough said police have received several calls from residents about the volleys of gunfire.

“It appears that the individuals in this case knew each other in some way and that this incident was intentional and directed against the individuals involved,” he said.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski called the incident “shocking,” especially for Baltimore County residents. “These kinds of incidents are unheard of here, so it really shocks the conscience,” he said during the press conference.

McCullough said “additional scenes” were being investigated in the area and “shots were reported throughout the area.”

Investigators do not believe the incident was related to business at the funeral home, which was closed at the time of the gunfire.

McCullough said police would “leave no stone unturned” and “dedicate all resources to solving this case.” Wednesday’s department press release states: “Throughout the night, Baltimore County detectives worked tirelessly at the scene of the incident, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and reviewing all available surveillance footage to piece together a timeline of the reconstruct events.”
