Oct. 18—GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks Rep. Emily O’Brien will remain on the November ballot after North Dakota’s secretary of state said her candidate files and voter ID show her as living in her district.
“North Dakota’s secretary of state says there are no facts to support allegations that a state representative lives outside the district in which she serves,” WDAY News’ Kerstin Kealy reported.
A resident of District 42
filed a complaint
last week to Grand Forks police, claiming that O’Brien, a Republican lawmaker since 2017, does not live at the address she claims. She is up for re-election on November 5.
O’Brien could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon but defended himself against the allegations
during a parliamentary candidates forum
on Tuesday.
“There have been multiple conversations. Four years ago it was the same conversation because my boyfriend and I have two children together,” O’Brien said at the time. “I work very hard to still have my own home where all my mail goes; my kids have a safe and comfortable place to go, just like mom and dad.”
