No injuries were reported after the Franklin cruiser struck a semi-trailer during the chase

Jan. 9—No injuries were reported after a Franklin police cruiser struck the trailer of a semi-truck during a chase on Interstate 75 early Friday.

The semi continued on the highway and has not been identified, Franklin police said.

Late Wednesday, a police officer was patrolling the area of South River Street near Farm Avenue when they noticed a red Mercedes. When the officer ran the license plate, police say they discovered the registered owner had multiple active felony warrants.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the car reportedly did not yield to lights or sirens.

The car then fled south on Dixie Drive toward Middletown before continuing onto State Route 122 and then I-75 North.

In Moraine, the car drove onto the right shoulder and passed three semi-trucks, which appeared to form a roadblock, police said.

The officer tried to follow the car onto the shoulder, but had to get back onto the road to avoid an empty disabled vehicle. Police say the cruiser struck a truck trailer and the pursuit was halted for officer safety. The chase lasted about 15 minutes.

A second Franklin cruiser equipped with StarChase, a mounted GPS system that police can fire at fleeing vehicles to track them, tried to get into position to deploy a GPS tracker but was unable to do so, according to the police.

The police are still looking for the suspect. Anyone with information should contact Detective Sgt. Jordan Colvin at 937-746-2882.
