(CBS DETROIT) – A no-kill animal shelter in St. Clair County is asking the public for help. Money is needed to expand the shelter so it can continue to help animals in need.
“We don’t like that there are so many animals who are homeless and need help. But they do need us and we’re going to make this facility a little bit bigger to try to help those animals. the best way we can,” said Katie Phelan, executive director of the Blue Water Area Humane Society in Clyde.
As you can see in the video above, construction has already started. Phelan says they started last year, but they still need donations to complete it. She gave CBS News Detroit an inside look at the space and explained the purpose of each area.
“If you have dogs staring at each other across the aisle, it’s very stressful for them, which makes them angry. They get very upset. So if we can design something where we have that line of sight, it’s going to be much better for these guys,” she said.
Other improvements include kennels, cage systems for isolated cats, a nursery for mother cats and kittens, new housing for rabbits and guinea pigs, and more.
