North Lakeland man accused of stabbing his wife to death during a fight

A Lakeland man was arrested Tuesday after police say he stabbed his wife to death.

According to a Lakeland Police Department news release, the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on North Fork Drive in North Lakeland, just across North Socrum Loop Road from the Sandpiper neighborhood.

Police received a 911 call from Deljie Tyson, 50, saying he had stabbed his wife, Sandra Green, 46, during a fight while she was acting erratically, the release said.

Tyson was still at the scene when police arrived, and Green was found on the kitchen floor with multiple visible stab wounds. Police said two knives and a gun were found nearby, but it did not appear the gun had been fired. Tyson also had a stab wound to his arm and a small cut to his finger.

Polk County Fire Rescue and Lakeland Fire Department attempted lifesaving measures on Green and transported both Green and Tyson to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. Green died shortly afterwards. LPD said she had more than 20 stab wounds. Tyson was treated for a minor injury and subsequently arrested by Lakeland police.

Based on evidence collected, LPD said Tyson was charged with manslaughter with a weapon. He retained an attorney and declined to talk to investigators about the details of the incident, the release said.
