GRANBURY – On Sunday morning, firefighters from several local departments rushed to the scene of a massive fire at a Granbury apartment where they found a two-year-old child trapped inside. His mother begged first responders to pull him from the fire. And it was all caught on camera.

“This morning between 12:50 and 1:00 p.m. I heard glass breaking,” said mother Phylicia Keen. “And I went into the living room and walked down the hallway and it was actually my windows that were broken by the flames from my balcony.”
Keen grabbed her four-year-old son, but couldn’t reach her two-year-old Liam.
“Unfortunately, I could only grab the one closest to me to get out. By the time I came back to get the baby, the entire living room hallway was covered in black smoke,” Keen said.

The fire brigade was on site within minutes. They grabbed a ladder and ran to the side of the building where Liam was.
“What’s going through our minds, as firefighters, is that it’s going to be the same outcome that we see 80% of the time,” said Granbury Fire Chief Bradley Snyder. “But not this time. Moments later they manage to pull Liam through the window alive… I’ve been doing this for 22 years and this is literally the first time I’ve seen it go in the right direction.”
“For them to tell me he was crying was probably the best moment of my life because once, just a few seconds before, I thought my baby was dead,” Keen said.
Liam was taken to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth with carbon monoxide poisoning. Now he is back in Keen’s arms, where he belongs. The family has lost so much, but they still have each other thanks to the courage of the firefighters that day.

“They are great heroes,” Keen said. “Angels are not recognized enough. They came running to the ground and didn’t stop.”
