Sunday is expected to be the busiest travel day of the year. At LAX, travelers are confronted with bumper-to-bumper traffic. The airport expected 206,000 passengers to pass through the gates.
While it’s a busy day for flyers, a major winter storm sweeping through the country is bringing brutal snow, with up to 2 feet of snow expected to fall in some parts of the Northeast. So far, 47 flights have been delayed at LAX, and that number could increase as the day progresses.
One passenger, Charles Robert Ellis, remained in good spirits despite his delayed flight to Washington DC
“The departure was smooth. No problem at all. I’ll have a two-hour delay when I get back today. That’s the nature of travel. Just get it over with,” he said with a shrug. ‘Why get angry? Why? It doesn’t matter. Your plane won’t take off.’
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen 3 million travelers on Sunday alone. AAA projects that are expected to serve more than 70 million people.
Experts say the worst time to travel for people hitting the road is between noon and 6 p.m.
