Novato police reported a citywide power outage at 11 a.m. Saturday and asked residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
The outage was caused by a storm with high winds that arrived in the Bay Area Friday evening, leaving several downed lines and trees, flooded roads and inoperable traffic lights in Novato, the police advisory said.
Police asked residents to stay home, avoid travel if possible and only call 911 in an emergency. Road conditions are hazardous due to debris and fallen limbs.
PG&E’s live outage map showed 7,440 affected customers as of 11:10 a.m.
About 30,000 customers in Marin County were without power as of 11:20 a.m., according to a PG&E spokesperson.
The storm left more than 150,000 customers around the Bay Area and Central Coast without power, including major outages in Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
Outages were reported in every Bay Area county as the storm dumped between 1 and 3 inches of rain in most parts of the region, with wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour forecast, according to the National Weather Service.
