Novato police on Tuesday arrested eight Sinaloa Middle School students, ranging in age from 12 to 14, following an attack on a fellow student that occurred last Friday on the North Bay campus.
According to a Novato Police Department news release Wednesday afternoon, authorities were notified of an attack that occurred at the school shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. An initial investigation by officers revealed that a group of students carried out a planned attack after the scheduled school lunch. attack on one student.
Police said that when the student targeted in the attack was attacked, other students gathered and began recording the incident on their phones, encouraging the fight. A second student who tried to stop the fight was also attacked. Both students who were attacked suffered moderate injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, according to police.
Officers immediately launched an investigation into the incident with Novato Unified School District officials and staff at Sinaloa Middle School, quickly identifying all parties involved. On Tuesday, police found and arrested eight Sinaloa students involved in the attack. The arrested students ranged in age from 12 to 14 years old. The children were booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall on charges of conspiracy and assault.
Upon their release, police thanked community members who provided additional information in the case, as well as witnesses and officials from the Novato Unified School District and Sinaloa Middle School.
