November will decide the ex-president’s fate

  • Trump was found guilty of falsifying company records in connection with a hush money payment.

  • The verdict made Trump the first US president ever to also be a convicted felon.

  • Both anyway Biden and Trump said it all comes down to the 2024 presidential election.

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump agree on at least one thing: It all comes down to the November election.

Trump on Thursday became the first former US president ever to become a felon when a jury in New York found him guilty of 34 charges of falsifying company records in connection with a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels.

Trump has rejected the verdict, insisting he is a “very innocent man.” But as for the 2024 presidential election, he was busy raising money for the verdict right after it was handed down.

“This was a shame. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt,” Trump told reporters outside the Manhattan courtroom, adding that “the real verdict will be delivered by the people on November 5.”

Biden seemed to agree that despite the guilty verdict, the only way to stop his 2024 challenger was to vote.

“There is only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: through the ballot box,” Biden said in a post on X shortly after the conviction.

A statement from the Biden campaign reiterated that message, adding: “Today’s judgment does not change the fact that the American people are faced with a simple reality.”

“Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president,” the campaign said.

Legal experts previously told Business Insider that even if Trump were convicted of the hush-money crimes, the chances of him actually going to prison were slim to none.

Even if Trump were to go to prison, the Constitution does not necessarily prevent people from running for president behind bars.

Trump’s sentencing date is scheduled for July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention.
