NY Thruway Rest Area in Scottsville Reopens With Upgrades. Here’s What’s New

Good news for vacationers: The Scottsville Thruway rest area has reopened just in time for summer travel.

NY Thruway rest area in Scottsville: What’s new

The 17th new service area, located between exits 47 (Rochester-LeRoy) and 46 (Rochester-Corning), features a playground, outdoor seating, a climate-controlled pet facility, a dog park and a private nursing area. A digital tourist kiosk and four level three high-speed EV chargers will be available at a later date, according to the New York State Thruway Authority. Visitors can also enjoy food from Burger King, Dunkin’, – which has a drive-through option – Applegreen C-Store and Taste NY Food and Drink products.

NY Thruway rest area upgrade: What’s open and closed?

The Scottsville rest area is the fifth to be completed this year, with Oneida, Port Byron, Warners and Guilderland rest areas opening in January, February, March and May, respectively. Nine more are currently under construction. Sloatsburg, Malden, Pattersonville, Ontario, DeWitt, Mohawk, Ulster and Ramapo service areas are also expected to open later this year.

Thruway Service Area Project Timeline: Four rest areas on the New York State Thruway have reopened this year. These are still closed

Rest areas closed sporadically for months while upgrades such as new restaurants, outdoor seating, playgrounds and pet walking areas were built over the course of the $450 million project.

In total, 23 of the Thruway’s 27 rest areas will be rebuilt and four others renovated. The entire project is expected to be completed next year.
