NEW YORK – David Banks, the president of New York City Schools College, is retiring.

Banks are just the latest top leader of the Adams administration Unpleasant announce their departure.

It comes just a day later Health Commissioner Dr Ashwin Vasan announced his resignation for personal and family reasons, and weeks after it was revealed that Banks’ home, which he shares with his fiancée, First Vice Mayor Sheena Wright, raided by federal agents on September 4.

In his resignation letter, Banks wrote that he had told Adams earlier this year that he planned to retire at the end of the year.

His retirement will take effect on December 31.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished during my tenure and the opportunity to work with such dedicated professionals to shape the future of education in our great city is one I will always cherish. We have overcome many challenges and made great strides in improving the educational landscape for our students, families and educators,” Banks wrote. “Together, we have laid the foundation to ensure every child can read, expanded special education services and gifted and talented programs, improved school meals, welcomed more than 45,000 immigrant students, and through a series of innovative partnerships, ensured that all students graduate on a path to rewarding careers and long-term economic security, equipped to be a positive force for change.”

“Serving as Chancellor has been a great honor and a very fulfilling experience. Thank you for the opportunity to serve and for your support during my tenure. Please know that I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth transition. I am confident that NYC Public Schools will continue to grow, innovate and excel under the next Chancellor,” he added.
