Neighbors shocked by Upper East Side attack

Most who spoke to CBS News New York call the area a good place to live and were stunned to hear what happened.

“This is normally a very safe neighborhood. I’ve lived here for 20 years,” said neighbor Elga Casino. ‘In her house? In her house? Oh my God.’

“I’m the same age, so it’s definitely very concerning,” Upper East Side resident Taylor Hoekstra said.

“It’s scary. It’s just horrible what happened to her, but I hope they catch whoever he is,” said Upper East Side resident Christine Jackson.

Residents say they are more wary than before.

“I’m really trying to stay present and not have my AirPods in,” Hoekstra said.

“We women, we live around here, I have daughters. We come and go, come from work, go to work. That’s terrible, now we really have to be extra careful,” Jackson said.
