OBJ still has to practice with his new Dolphins teammates

Four weeks ago today, the Dolphins signed receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Since then, Beckham has yet to step onto the practice field with his new teammates.

He is present for the mandatory mini-camp. The team has decided to keep him out of team practices for the time being.

“Everyone is excited to see players when they first come here, and a player of that caliber, everyone is excited,” coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday. “But what we try to do systematically is get to know the player and develop a relationship with him and adapt to his body on his timeline so that we can have the most useful, communicative relationship to maintain health. Long story short, working on playing with the Miami Dolphins, between myself and [head athletic trainer] Kyle [Johnston] We decided you should wait. But that’s just because of the individual process that we’re very consistent with when new guys come into the team. We make no assumptions and ensure that there are no setbacks when the boys are on the field. We will of course apply that to him.”

Receiver Jaylen Waddle separately confirmed that Beckham has not been on the practice field with Hill and Waddle.

“I can’t wait, man,” Waddle said. “Like I said, when I was in high school, these guys were getting it done in the league. So I was a fan of OBJ, I was a fan of Tyreek Hill. They’re like the head honchos of the passing era, so when I play with them the kid in me will be kind of excited.

Waddle is now the head honcho. He makes more money than either of them, at $28.25 million a year. And both Hill and Beckham call Waddle ’28’.

Hill came up with it. Waddle should respond by calling Hill “25.” Because while everyone says Hill makes $30 million a year, few take into account the bogus compensation package of $45 million in 2026 that has artificially displaced the new money average from the real number.
