Ocean City businesses prepare for the Fourth of July rush as families flock to the shore

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) — The crowds along the Jersey Shore are only going to get bigger in the run-up to July 4, with many people getting a head start on the holiday later this week.

Manco & Manco Pizza had a long line out the door on Monday night and Shriver’s Salt Water Taffy & Fudge was packed in Ocean City, New Jersey.

“We are fully staffed right now and all the registers will be open on July 4,” said Aidan Yargar, who works at Shriver’s.

Yargar says it’s busy every day, but they’re already preparing for the holiday rush.

On Monday evening, there was a large crowd on the boardwalk as the sun set into the ocean.

“There are about 14 of us and we enjoy the beach, the boardwalk, going out to eat and just having a great time,” said Glenn Reed, who lives in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

Many families say they spend a week in Ocean City and that for them this is just the beginning of the fun, especially as the 4th of July approaches.

“We’re going to sit on my top deck and watch the fireworks,” said Joe Canale.

With the holidays quickly approaching, families are enjoying time together and creating beautiful memories.

“We’re going to spend the morning at the beach, building sand castles and then have a barbecue and eat burgers and hot dogs,” said Dylan Mattioli, who lives in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
