Off-duty CPD officer fires back at armed offenders in Printers Row, COPA investigates

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after an off-duty Chicago police officer shot at two unknown assailants in Printer’s Row early Saturday morning, police said.

Around 3:45 a.m. in the 0-100 block of W Polk Street, a 25-year-old man was approached on the sidewalk by two unknown individuals, Chicago police said. An off-duty female CPD officer then began walking toward the group, at which point the unknown perpetrators pulled out a gun and fired in the officer’s direction, police said.

The CPD officer then fired back at the perpetrators, causing them to flee, police said.

No injuries have been reported and no one is in custody.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability and the Investigative Response Team are both investigating the incident.
