Officers quickly arrest the man they believe stabbed a sleeping woman

Officers found a man they believe broke into a Tice woman’s home and stabbed and beat her as she slept early Sunday.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to an incident on New York Drive. They haven’t released a time. Officers found a woman with multiple stab wounds and began treating her, while a drone unit and officers began a search for the attacker.

Drone operator Justin McDonald located the suspect a block away with the weapon, the sheriff’s Facebook post said. Officers arrested the suspect, Bonnier Jose Sarmiento Lanza, 33, of Fort Myers without incident.

Detectives said Lanza broke into the victim’s home and began hitting and stabbing her multiple times while she slept. He also hit another person in the home. They said the victim and suspect know each other.

Lanza is charged with two counts of burglary with battery and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He remained in the Lee County Jail without bond Sunday afternoon. He is due in court on December 30.
