A regional leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) criticized a court ruling on Wednesday that allows the party to remain under investigation by the intelligence services.
The ruling by the Baden-Württemberg High Court is “simply absurd,” said Markus Frohnmaier, head of the AfD branch in the southwestern state.
Frohnmaier, who was born in Romania, told dpa: “The AfD is so inclusive that it has chosen a party leader with Romanian roots.”
“The AfD does not want Germans with and without a migrant background to be treated unequally under the law,” he added.
The Mannheim court decision allows the Baden-Württemberg Constitutional Protection Office to continue classifying the AfD in the state as a suspected right-wing extremist organization.
