Ohio let Sherrod Brown down
Sherrod Brown stands with workers and fights to save jobs in Ohio.
In 1994, he strongly opposed NAFTA, which encouraged companies to move jobs to Mexico to take advantage of cheap labor.
He sponsored the Butch Lewis Act to protect and support failing pension plans. It became part of the American Rescue Plan and has secured the future of thousands of workers.
He has also consistently advocated for unions and the need for higher wages.
Bernie Moreno, on the other hand, was forced to settle multiple lawsuits between 2017 and 2023 for failing to pay overtime to his employees.
Whatever Ohio voters thought of Biden’s efforts to reduce inflation from Covid-19, supply chain disruptions and higher prices from Trump’s tariffs, there was no reason to reject Sherrod Brown.
He would have continued to fight against the extension of Trump’s tax cuts, which disproportionately benefit the wealthy and corporations and have contributed to high interest rates by widening the budget deficit.
He is said to have opposed proposed cuts in government spending, cuts that threaten thousands of jobs supported by the Inflation Reduction Act and benefits such as the ACA’s cheaper health insurance.
Sherrod Brown would have continued to fight for Ohioans. Will Bernie Moreno, hand-picked by Donald Trump, stand up to him to protect these programs and benefits?

Empowering abusive men
As an attorney who has worked with survivors of domestic violence, I fear what a Trump-Vance White House will look like for the clients I have represented in the past.
Not only do Donald Trump and JD Vance support policies that directly harm women and those they perceive as women, but both men endorse violence against women, something that I thought even conservatives and Republicans condemned as a social evil.
Instead of moving on from what should be a non-controversial issue, namely that women’s fundamental right to safety must be protected, we continue to elevate men who promote violence against women.
The victory between Trump and Vance reflects that American society continues to devalue women, especially women of color and immigrant women.
By choosing the man who proudly proclaimed that he simply “took it.”[s] ’em by the p—y’, we continue to create a society where abusers and rapists are celebrated and enabled to exploit and humiliate women.

Two equally bad choices. Oh!
The recent letter to the editor from Ron Six of Reynoldsburg was a hit.
I am also a moderate Republican and not a Trump supporter. Vice President Kamala Harris was a bad choice from the start.
A hand-picked candidate from the Democratic Party, who even many Democrats could see, was not the right candidate.
Unfortunately, the American people had to vote for two equally bad choices. Just as better ingredients make better pizza, better party candidates make better election results.
Where’s Homer when you need him? Oh!
