Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Brandston Ave around 3 a.m. on December 24.
Upon arrival, crews found the single-family home already engulfed in flames, melting the sides of neighboring homes, Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti said.
The fire brigade immediately searched the house, but it was already too late. WOIO reported.
They found the 29-year-old man dead in a bedroom. His name has not yet been released.
It is unclear at this time if the man died before the fire broke out, or if his death was a result of the fire.
According to Pronesti, no one else was injured.
Please remind everyone to check your smoke detectors,” Pronesti said.
Firefighters remained on scene until 10:30 a.m. to extinguish the fire and investigate. WOIO reported.
The estimated cost of damage to the main house is $120,000. One of the neighboring homes suffered $40,000 in damage, and the other sustained $20,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal, Elyria Fire Department and Elyria Police.
