Ohio woman accused of killing cat and eating it in front of people

An Ohio woman has been arrested after police say she stomped a cat to death and ate it in front of several people.

A 27-year-old woman was charged Wednesday with companion animal abuse, according to Stark County court records.

Canton police arrested the woman on Aug. 16 after they said she killed and ate a cat in a “residential neighborhood in front of multiple people,” according to an arrest report obtained by USA TODAY.

The suspect’s bond was set at $100,000 during a arraignment hearing on Monday, WKYC reported. Her next hearing is Friday, according to court records.

USA TODAY was unable to contact the woman’s attorney on Thursday.

Complaint from woman who ‘killed cat’

On the day of the incident, officers from the Canton Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a complaint of a woman who had “killed a cat and was eating it,” according to an investigative report. When officers arrived, they saw a woman with her hands on a cat “that appeared to have its head bashed in,” the report continued.

Blood was found on the woman’s feet and hands and there was hair on her lips, the report said.

After taking the woman to the Stark County Jail, officers took the “cat as evidence,” police said.

It is unclear who the cat belonged to.
