CHICAGO (CBS) – “There’s no need to fear” if you see this listing in Chicago’s northern suburbs on Zillow. Searchers on social media noticed that the house was next to the iconic “Home Alone” home in Winnetka is now for sale.
In the 1990 holiday film, Old Man Marley, the apparently creepy neighbor of movie star Kevin McCallister, owns the house near the McCallister family at 681 Lincoln Avenue.
Despite the film’s disturbing framing, the six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home is on the market for nearly $3.8 million (after reportedly selling for $4.8 million earlier this year). It features a large outdoor pool, putting green and half-basketball court.
If you’re considering buying the house, remember Marley’s words: “You’re never too old to be afraid.”
“Home Alone” house sale “pending”
Meanwhile, the iconic ‘Home Alone’ house may also have found a new owner.
Zillow has a “pending” sale at the Home Alone house, located at 671 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka. The 9,000-square-foot home was for sale for $5.2 million.
The iconic brick home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms and an indoor sports court.
The last time the “McAllister house” was on the market was in 2012, it sold for $1.585 million – down from an asking price of $2.4 million.
According to Vanity Fair, the red-brick Georgian kitchen dates back to 1920. It first gained fame outside the North Shore in 1974 – 16 years before it became the ‘Home Alone’ house – when the newly updated kitchen was featured in the September issue of ‘ Better’ appeared. Homes & Gardens,” according to Vanity Fair.
John and Cynthia Abendshien moved into the house in 1988 and lived there when “Home Alone” was filmed. As CBS News Chicago reported in May, the Abendshiens sold the house in 2012.
