One dead after vehicle struck semi on I-10 near Desert Center

One person died after the vehicle they were riding in crashed near Desert Center early Tuesday morning, Cal Fire says.

The crash occurred at 12:55 a.m. on the east side of the highway, west of the Eagle Mountain Road exit. Both the vehicle and the semi burst into flames, according to a social media post. Cal Fire said the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, but did not say whether anyone else was riding in the vehicle that struck the semi-truck.

California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident, could not immediately be reached for more information.

Sig Alert, the traffic monitoring service, reported at 7:20 a.m. that the right lane of the highway remained closed around the crash site on Eagle Mountain Road, but said it was not causing delays due to the uncongested area.

This is a development story.
