One dead, five injured in shooting at wedding in France

One person was killed and five injured in a shooting at a wedding in France on Sunday morning, French prosecutors said.

One young man was killed and five other victims were injured, three of them in critical condition, they said.

There were also two minor injuries caused by flying shards of glass, including a pregnant woman who also suffered a shock, local newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain reported.

When emergency services arrived, the shooters had already fled.

About 100 people were celebrating at a banquet hall in the town of Thionville in the Lorraine region, near the German and Luxembourg borders, when three masked assailants opened fire with two assault rifles and a shotgun, prosecutors said.

The gunmen arrived in an all-terrain vehicle around 1am on Sunday (11pm GMT on Saturday) and initially shot at three people outside the ballroom, where members of the Turkish community were celebrating a wedding, according to media reports.

They then reportedly shot at two people at the entrance and then fled in their vehicle.
