One man was killed in a shooting near Swope Park on Saturday evening, Kansas City police said

Kansas City police are investigating a shooting near Swope Park on Saturday evening that left one person dead.

Police were called to the 5600 block of East 69th Street around 6:30 p.m., where they found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but died several hours later, said Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Preliminary investigation shows that there was an altercation between two people who previously knew each other, but no one is yet in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to anonymously contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously through the TIPS hotline.

The killing marks the 133rd homicide in Kansas City in 2024, up from 162 this time last year, according to homicides tracked by The Star.
