Kansas City police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead in Kansas City on Saturday evening.
Officers were called to a home in the 2700 block of Garfield Avenue, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound who was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. According to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the KCPD, several people were at the scene.
One of the people at the scene was a man, who has been arrested for further investigation. Police are not currently looking for additional suspects, Becchina said in a news release. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was inside the residence when he had an interaction with an individual, which escalated and led to gunfire.
The killing marks the city’s 132nd homicide of 2024, up from 161 this time last year, according to homicides tracked by the Kansas City Star.
