SAN LEANDRO – One person and a dog died in a fire at an apartment complex in San Leandro on Sunday, according to authorities.
At approximately 3:23 p.m., the Alameda County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment in the 14600 block of Washington Avenue.
According to the fire brigade, the entire apartment went up in flames. There were three people inside at the time, two managed to escape. One person and the family dog succumbed to the fire and died.
In total, the fire damaged four apartments and displaced twelve people. The displaced residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
