Lt. At just 39 years old, Shea joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and quickly made her name as a compassionate law enforcement officer, rising star and friend to so many she worked with. She lit up every room she entered with her infectiously bubbly personality, beautiful spirit and friendly smile. Ellie was a mentor, teacher, advocate, protector, cheerleader, and an inspiration to women who wanted to become leaders. Ellie was a loving mother of two little girls and served her community with grace, integrity and pride, and she will be deeply missed. Her family at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is shocked by this tragedy, and we wrap our arms around each other – and everyone who loves Ellie – as we try to cope with this devastating loss.

See a statement from Sheriff John Mina:
“Ellie cared deeply about this agency and the work we do, and I considered her a rising star,” Mina said. “We have all struggled with feelings of shock, sadness and guilt this week as we tried to make sense of Ellie’s death, which was ruled a suicide. I would like to thank our homicide detectives, who had the extremely difficult task of investigating the murder of a colleague, for their dedication in ensuring justice for Ellie. It’s devastating to know that we will never be on the receiving end of Ellie’s kindness or warm smile again. We pray for her two girls, the rest of her family and all who love her.”
