Organic eggs sold at Costco are being recalled due to concerns that they may be contaminated with salmonella.
About 10,800 organic, pasture-raised, 24-count eggs sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand are being recalled by New York-based Handsome Brook Farms, according to a news release on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
The affected boxes were sold at 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee as of November 22.
The recall only applies to devices with the Julian code 327 and an expiration date of January 6, 2025. No other products are affected by the recall.
The recall was initiated after Handsome Brook determined that eggs not intended for retail stores were instead being packaged and distributed in retail containers, the release said. Additional supply chain controls and retraining are being introduced to prevent recurrence, the report said.
To date, there have been no complaints of illness. The recall is being done in collaboration with the FDA.
Affected consumers should stop consuming the product and return the affected units to their local Costco store for a full refund or discard the products.
