PALO ALTO – The brutal heat wave is affecting people across the Bay Area.

The peak was originally forecast to be on Tuesday, but temperatures in the 90s will continue to impact some areas through the weekend and some people in Palo Alto will be feeling a little uneasy.

“I want to go to the cool house,” Kylie Gifford said.

But they find ways to adapt: They wear summer sandals and sunglasses, pull out an umbrella to protect themselves from the sun and find cool places.

“We’re going to sit in the theater,” Linda Catalano said.

Catalano was heading to the Stanford Theater to watch a movie and sit in the air conditioning, something she doesn’t have at home.

“We live on a creek and it keeps our house cool, but today it got hot because it’s been so hot the last few days,” Catalano said.

And she’s not the only one who wants to avoid the rising temperature in their home.

“It’s very hot and my apartment has no air conditioning, so we try to beat the heat by getting some ice cream,” said Alex Georgiou.

Ice cream was a popular choice and many people stopped by Palo Alto Creamery for a sweet treat. Jamie Gifford stopped by after a long day in the sun with his kids.

“We were at football games this morning and we just went to the Stanford game and I think there were about 100 people on the sunny side and 10,000 people on the shade side,” Gifford said. “We don’t normally eat ice cream right before dinner, but I couldn’t think of a better way to cool off with the kids.”

With another warm day expected on Sunday, people will have to continue to find creative ways to cool down.
