Parades, concerts and ceremonies will honor veterans in South Florida in honor of Veterans Day

With Veterans Day on Monday, communities across South Florida are paying tribute to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Here is a sampling of Veterans Day events in South Florida:

Cutler Bay Veterans Day Breakfast: Those who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces are welcome; 9am November 11; Cutler Bay City Hall, 10720 Caribbean Blvd., Cutler Bay. Doral Veterans Day Ceremony: Remembering and honoring the men and women who have served and are serving our country; 9am November 11; Veterans Park, 10190 NW 33 St., Doral. Free. 305-593-6600.

City of Miami Beach Veterans Day Parade and Celebration: Featuring veterans and military groups, marching bands and an F-16 flyover, beginning at 11:11 a.m. Nov. 11, along Ocean Drive and Fifth Street. Celebration also marks the opening of a free, three-month outdoor exhibition, “Boot Camp in Paradise: World War II in Miami Beach.” Free. 305-673-7575.

Veterans Day Celebration in the City of Homestead: The South Florida Youth Symphony will present a moving musical tribute, with additional performances by the US Air Force Reserve Band and other local groups. Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in attendance and serving beer and wine as part of a fundraising campaign in support of their charitable initiatives. As a grand finale, Homestead’s first-ever drone show will light up the night sky; 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM November 10; Losner Park, 104 N. Krome Ave, Homestead. Free. City of Surfside Veterans Day Ceremony: A commemorative event honoring the brave men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces. Light refreshments provided; 10am November 11; Veterans Park, 8750 Collins Ave., Surfside. Free. 305-866-3635.

Broward County

Veterans Day celebration in the city of North Lauderdale: Featuring veteran recognition, musical and video tributes, lectures and keynote addresses by U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus McCormick and Florida State Senator Rosalind Osgood; 9:45 am November 11; Teen/Recreation Center, behind North Lauderdale City Hall, 701 SW 71st Ave., North Lauderdale. Coconut Creek Veterans Day Ceremony: Dignitaries, guest speakers, the Coconut Creek Police Department honor guard and Monarch High Jr. ROTC will pay tribute to the men and women who made our freedom possible; 11am November 11; Veterans Park, 3550 Lyons Rd., Coconut Creek. Coral Springs Veterans Day Ceremony: Vice Adm. Douglas M. Schofield, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard, Seventh District and director of the Homeland Security Task Force in Miami, is the guest speaker; 10:30am – 12pm November 11; Veterans Park, 8601 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs. Margate Veterans Day Ceremony: Honoring and saluting the men and women who fought for our country’s freedom. Light refreshments provided; 10:30 am November 11; Veterans Memorial Park, 7044 NW First St., Margate. Free.

Parkland Veterans Day Ceremony: Honoring those who served our nation; 11am November 11; Veterans Park, 6620 N. University Dr., Parkland. Free. 954-757-4107.

Tamarac Veterans Day Ceremony: Includes a presentation of colors by the Tamarac Fire Rescue Honor Guard. Chantal Deshaies sings the national anthem, followed by short comments from dignitaries.
