PCC organizes course ‘Computer basics for seniors’ in September

Pueblo Community College will host “Computer Basics for Seniors” courses through the college’s business program from September 16-18.

Classes will be held daily in Pueblo Community College’s Gorsich Technology Building, Room 234C, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn computer basics, familiarize themselves with the Windows operating system, learn how to open and save files, use Microsoft Word and Google Docs, use video conferencing technology, and more.

CSU Pueblo gears up for fall classes on Huerfano County campus

Colorado State University Pueblo’s Extended Studies department has expanded its reach with the opening of a new campus in Walsenburg on August 12.

CSU Pueblo at Spanish Peaks, 201 E. 5th St., was founded in part to meet the health care needs of Huerfano County and other underserved areas in rural Colorado. CSU Pueblo has partnered with Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center to offer bachelor’s degrees in nursing on campus.

According to a press release from CSU Pueblo, additional programs are expected to be offered at this location in the future.

“CSU Pueblo at Spanish Peaks is truly a remarkable collaboration between diverse community partners who saw a vision and made it a reality… The launch of this new campus and our new programs are a testament to that drive and passion to provide higher education opportunities to Huerfano County and beyond,” Dean of Extended Studies Kathryn Starkey said in the release.

Colorado State Fair offers discount days for students

The Colorado State Fair has begun, offering families several options to save money while enjoying what the annual event has to offer.

CSU Pueblo Kids Days are held at the fair on August 26 and September 2. On these days, children under 12 are admitted free. There is also Back to School Day on August 29, where those with a student coupon or voucher receive free admission and a $25 wristband for unlimited rides on the fairgrounds.

Gate admission is free for children ages four and under on all days of the fair. On days when student discounts are not offered, admission is $7 for children ages 5-12. “Adult admission” for those 13 and older is $15.
