(CBS DETROIT) – It’s an effort to combat gun violence in some of Detroit’s most violent neighborhoods.

Law enforcement officers on the city’s east side, as well as city representatives, were able to knock on doors Monday evening and spread the word about “peaceful.”

“(It’s) the opportunities we have to engage with the community in a non-enforcement way,” U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison said when speaking about the efforts.

Peacenics is part of the One Detroit Violence Reduction Partnership – Safe Summer Streets Initiative. This initiative aims to reduce gun violence in Detroit’s two most dangerous districts, eight and nine, by familiarizing law enforcement with the people who live in those communities.

“Even if you look back at 2020, when we saw a spike in crime across the country, it has taught us that we can’t actually police without community input and support,” said Detroit Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison.

To bring awareness to this, they went to residents’ doorsteps to tell residents like Chonte Patterson not only about the games and food, but also about career services, removal assistance, resident services and more.

“I’m glad someone is looking at our beautiful community and trying to do something about it,” Patterson said.

The first Peacenic will take place on June 15 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Detroit’s Ninth District at the Heilmann Recreation Center.

The second will take place on June 29 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Detroit’s Eighth District at O’Hair Park.
