A Levittown, Bucks County man was fatally struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia Tuesday evening, Pennsylvania State Police said.

State police identified the man as Peter Sorochinski.

State Police say they received a report of a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-95 near the entrance ramp to Market Street just before 9 p.m.

A witness at the scene told state police they stopped to help Sorochinski after seeing him crash into a crash absorber on the left side of the highway.

State police say that after the collision, Sorochinski crossed two lanes of traffic, struck a concrete barrier and stopped in the merging lane. He suffered a head injury during the crash, according to state police.

Sorochinski then got out of his car, stopped in the southbound lane and was struck by a silver sedan. State police say the make and model of the car are unclear at this time.

State police say that as a result of the collision, Sorochinski’s body was thrown onto the roadway and was struck by two other vehicles. Police said the two other cars remained at the scene.

Sorochinski was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m., according to state police.

A portion of southbound I-95 was closed for a time after the crash but eventually reopened.
