BROOKLYN PARK, Minnesota — A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was hit by a driver late Saturday night in the northern metropolis.

According to Brooklyn Park police, the crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 252 and Brookdale Drive North.

According to an accident report from the Minnesota State Patrol, a 26-year-old Burnsville man was driving a Buick Encore northbound on the freeway when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing the intersection.

The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man from St. Cloud, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to North Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the accident. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

State police have not disclosed who had the right of way at the time of the incident.

According to police, Highway 252 was closed for two hours while officers directed traffic.
