Pedestrian killed in Oxnard in what’s being called the sixth homicide of the year

A 46-year-old pedestrian was killed Saturday evening in Oxnard after a vehicle allegedly deliberately struck him and fled, police said.

The incident is the sixth homicide in the city this year, according to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department.

Around 11:40 p.m., calls came into the department from individuals saying the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in the 100 block of Magnolia Avenue, police said. The address is north of the downtown Oxnard Public Library.

Officers found the man unconscious in the parking lot, the news release said. He received emergency care before being transported to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as Raul Silva of Oxnard.

The vehicle that struck the man reportedly fled before police arrived. Officers said they heard there was an argument between the vehicle’s occupants and Silva before he was hit.

The department’s Major Crimes Unit is conducting the ongoing investigation.

Investigators encourage anyone with information or who heard or saw anything related to the incident to contact Detective Ricardo Vega at 805-385-7688 or via email at ricardo.vega@oxnardpd.org.

The city of Oxnard is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for committing murders in the city.
