A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in Lexington on Monday night, according to Lexington police.

The collision occurred at Newtown Pike and Sugar Maple Lane around 11:58 p.m. Lt. Joe Anderson of the Lexington Police Department said the pedestrian was struck by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jacob Payne, 27. Payne was pronounced dead of blunt force injuries at 12:51 a.m.

The driver involved in the crash was not arrested at the scene and no charges are pending at this time, Anderson said. The coroner’s office ruled Payne’s death an accident.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision.

The inbound Newtown Pike was closed for a time while investigators analyzed the scene, Anderson said. The road has now been reopened.

This is the 10th fatal collision in Lexington this year, according to Kentucky State Police data. This is also the third fatal pedestrian accident in 2024, after 20 fatal pedestrian accidents in 2023.
