They say penguins can’t fly, and that couldn’t be truer today as the Pittsburgh Penguins did not travel to Detroit to play the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night.
Ahead of their Kraft Hockeyville matchup against the Ottawa Senators in Sudbury, ON, on Sunday, the Penguins were set to continue their preseason schedule with a lead against the Red Wings.
However, mechanical problems with their aircraft grounded the Penguins.
Although their plans for Saturday night have been canceled, the team did not announce any travel plans to Ontario on Sunday. As the match still has more than 24 hours to go, the club has plenty of time to find alternative arrangements.
Because this match was only a pre-season match, there is a chance that it will not be made up later, meaning that instead of seven matches, only six will now be made up.
Regardless, the two teams meet Tuesday night in Pittsburgh and play in Detroit on Oct. 10 on the second night of the regular season.
