PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A power outage and reports of possible smoke odors prompted a temporary evacuation of the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg on Thursday.

According to the Commonwealth’s Department of General Services, the power outage occurred throughout the Capitol complex around 11 a.m.

After emergency services arrived, power was restored. No one was injured.

WHP-TV, a CBS station in Harrisburg, reported that some Capitol employees smelled smoke or gas in a garage beneath the building.

The public was allowed back into the building just after noon, the Department of General Services said.

It wasn’t a particularly busy day at the Capitol. The Pennsylvania Legislature’s online calendar showed only a hearing of the Independent Regulatory Review Commission.

No further information is immediately available about the cause of the power outage.
