BETHEL PARK, Pa. (KDKA) – With the holiday shopping season approaching, Pennsylvania has gotten its very first Von Maur department store, right here in the Pittsburgh area.
Von Maur, one of the nation’s top retailers, held its grand opening Saturday in South Hills Village.
Local Bethel Park officials and store managers cut the ribbon at 9:45 a.m., prompting a long line of customers to enter to view the store.
The new department store has two floors and is 118,000 square meters in size.
Shoppers were greeted with roses, chocolates and reusable shopping bags, as well as activity books for young people in the children’s department.
There were also some giveaways, chances to win gift cards and free holiday photos.
The celebration also included a large cake in the shape of the department store.
The very first Von Maur store opened in Davenport, Iowa in the late 19th century. Now they have stores in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
